About the role:
In Xperi we aim to disrupt the TV industry by introducing TiVo OS – a brand new, content-centric operating system for Smart TVs, based on the legendary American TiVo brand! As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and directly manage a team of talented software engineers who are based in Poland. It is a leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and shaping skeleton of our operating system, starting from its compilation up to the system scalability across various hardware it is deployed to. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of Linux architecture for based embedded systems and modern practices on how to create firmware for Linux-based products with strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams located in different time zones and support business objectives.
What you will get to do:
System Foundation Management
- Lead the design, implement and maintain a highly secure and deployable operating system in scalable way among various production lines in our partners
- Own system image creation framework domain for our operating system for Smart TVs
- Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to improve performance while keeping the system robustness
- Optimize the image creation workflow to boost development activities
- Report on the system scalability and deployment, incident trends, and team KPIs to leadership
- Collaborate with corporate security & compliance team and our partners to implement best practices in system scalability
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a team of engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align system scalability related initiatives with organizational priorities
- Prioritize and execute project work to help achieve team goals
- Being self-reliant, with a proactive approach and willingness to share your knowledge with peers
- Stay updated on the latest developments in relevant technologies, equipment, and systems
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance system scalability and performance
- Support R&D prototypes and demos initiatives
Who we are looking for:
- Hands-on experience managing a team and leading projects hands-on from start to finish
- 8+ years of experience in engineering role, with 2+ years in a leadership capacity
- Experience in building applications for Linux-based operating system (ideally for embedded systems) and Linux kernel customization
- Deep knowledge of SW design patterns, architectures, and best practices
- Strong understanding of quality assurance principles, methodologies, and practices in software development
- Experience with project & delivery tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Gerrit, Jenkins, CI/CD)
- Experience with Yocto Linux distribution is a huge plus
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment and manage tasks from a variety of sources.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (English)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
